What to do, what to do…

Confused

So, yes, I’m currently working on the fourth book in the Cartel series (part-time), but I’m also trying to decide what other project I want to finish in the meantime. I’m at a stalemate talking to myself, so now I’m asking you: would you rather read…?

BROKEN

AVERAGE JILL

  1. I agree with Brandie and others on this. I would read either of these choices. And, of course, I would throw encouragement your way like water on a fire. I will add that, while the title “Broken” intrigues me, I enjoyed Average Jill right away. I absolutely love when a character is thought to be “Average” because it usually turns out that character is any but “Average.” I also like that your main character in this story can be slightly overweight but still have confidence and be comfortable in her own body. There’s nothing sexier than confidence!

    • I’m kind of excited that the vote seems to be leaning that way, because A J feels like it’s going to be tons of fun to write…on the other hand, I really love the ideas I’ve got going for broken, so… hence, the vote. lol

After reading both excerpts, I like both. However, since you have been working so long on Broken, maybe you need a break from it to assess things. One nagging thought on Broken, are you spending a lot of time re-writing and making little forward progress?

You did not mention the percentage finished of each story or the overall projected length. Perhaps, you have a writer friend/mentor, someone you respect who juggles multiple works and or pen names? Consult them.

P.S. I’ m a reader of 60 years and follow a lot of blogs and subscribe to many newsletters and I notice on Aussie/NZ sites, a blogger will interview an author and ask about writing style. “Are you a Pantser or ….”

    • Essentially, both are a direct result from random ideas I uncovered while trying to avoid writer’s block on the Cartel series. As such, I’m not really more invested in one than then other, as most of you seem to believe. I liked them both, and just couldn’t decide which I wanted to tackle first. Also, jumping from a modern suspense/romance series to a period western romance novel seemed like a far leap. I wasn’t really sure how the readers would feel about it… so I asked 🙂

As for writing style, I’ve developed friendships with several great indie writers that would be awesome interview-ees, but I kind of like the idea of organic style development. We help each other with technicalities, but one of the best things about being an indie writer is that there don’t seem to be any hard and fast rules, save one: the people decide your fate, so keep them happy and you’re golden. Because of that, you have more freedom to develop a style without being told you’re doing it ‘wrong’. Plus, with self-publishing, you have instant feedback, so it’s easier to learn your way.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll definitely take some time to ponder your suggestions and put them to good use 😉

I’m gonna go with Average Jill. Could lead to something interesting. If this is half as good as your Cartel Series. I love your writing style and the way your mind seems to work..

I would love to read more of Broken!

I was just wondering why you are not working on the 4th book in the cartel series full time? It sounds like everyone is waiting to read it!

    • Well, frankly, I’ve been working on the Cartel books for around three years now. The characters share space in my head, and just like any relationship, when you spend 24/7 with the same person(s), you go a little crazy. I love my readers, and I will give them more of what they want, but its time to get out of the house and meet some new friends, you know? Otherwise, I’ll do something nuts like kill everyone in the cartel series off in one big car bomb! Lol
